Curve Lake First Nation author Drew Hayden Taylor is in the running for multiple 2023 Canadian Screen Awards – two for a CBC documentary titled The Pretendians and a third for his hosting of the series Going Native aired on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.
Widely respected as the author of numerous books and as a playwright, Taylor says being recognized for his documentary work is especially satisfying.
Taylor was 25 years old when his writing career began in the form of a script for an episode of The Beachcombers. On reflection, he says the success that followed came despite being told at a young age that there was no future in being a writer.
Following the Canadian Screen Awards’ presentation in April, Taylor will be awarded an honourary degree from Trent University in June.
Taylor is now working on a new novel and is writing a series of short stories.
