The Lakefield Chiefs scored three goals in the third period last night but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Clarington Eagles 4-3 in PJHL first round playoff action.
The loss meant the end of the season for the Chiefs, who were swept by the Eagles in four straight games.
Lakefield trailed 4-0 going into the final period but didn’t give up, scoring three unanswered goals in the opening seven and a half minutes of the frame, on goals from Mark Quesnel, Matt Campbell and Greg Sheedy.
Aiden Leger made 29 saves, including several big ones down the stretch, as the Chiefs pushed for the equalizer late in regulation.
The elimination puts a bow on a tough season for the Chiefs who went 10-30-2-0 in the regular season, finishing last in the East Orr Division, which forced them into that first round matchup with an Eagles team who had only lost six games all year.
