A Trent student-run community theatre group is opening its latest production this weekend, marking its 20th anniversary while heralding a continued return to the stage after a lengthy break due to the pandemic.
The Anne Shirley Theatre Company is staging the musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone until March 19th at Market Hall. Producer and stage manager Vivien Zujko says it’s a parody of circa 1920s musical comedies that results from a middle-aged musical theatre fan taking in his favourite musical and then passing comment on the music, story and actors.
Zujko says this production marks the culmination of a bumpy road back from three years of inactivity.
Beyond the presentation of top-quality theatre, Zujko says the company brings together a wide range of Trent students working toward a common goal.
