Peterborough city council has a difficult decision to make when it comes to next year’s budget allotment for Peterborough Public Health.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Thomas Piggott, gave a presentation Tuesday night and pitched councillors on supporting a 22.41 per cent increase for 2023 – which is about $1.6 million total and $287,000 more than last year.
Part of the reason for the higher than usual request is to continue to run current programming and to help cover a current deficit of $608,000.
Council will hold a series of finance meetings next week before the budget is voted on at the January 30th meeting.
Staff have recommended a four per cent all-inclusive tax increase which adds $67.61 annually per $100,000 of residential assessment.
