Ontario pharmacists now being allowed to prescribe medication for 13 common ailments will do much to alleviate the pressure on a local health care system that is hard pressed to accommodate residents’ needs.
That’s the word from Westmount Pharmacy manager Khalid Younis, who says Ontario has finally caught up to other provinces that, for some time, have given pharmacists the green light to prescribe medication for a number of common maladies.
Younis says a large percentage of many ailments can be managed by a pharmacist
Younis adds details on reimbursement for the service from the Province came shortly before it was in effect but notes Westmount is proceeding regardless, whatever the level of that reimbursement.
Ailments that pharmacists can now prescribe for include hay fever, urinary tract infections, insect bites, sprains and cold sores.
