The Marquee sign at Showplace Performance Centre in downtown Peterborough is in the midst of getting a facelift. The refurbishment is the final of Showplace’s Signage and Networking Upgrade Project with the work made possible by a grant of up to $100,000 through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario’s Tourism Relief Fund, administered by Regional Tourism Organization 8.
Board Chair Ken Doherty feels the upgrade projects have enhanced their street presence while enriching their visitors’ experience and says they could not have such a high-profile impact without the funding.
Commercial Press, who has been in business locally for 84 years, has been given the task of removing the existing signage and lightning and will replace it with Showplace’s new logo and contact information, which will be illuminated with LED lighting. Demolition of the old Marquee began yesterday with the installation of the new enhanced sign expected to be completed at today.
Showplace opened it’s doors on October 5th, 1996, and was created from what had been built in 1947 as the Odeon movie theatre.
