With Halloween treats on the horizon, don’t be tricked into a trip to the dentist.
That’s the word from the Ontario Dental Association that has issued guidance on teeth-friendly treats and those goodies it’s best to avoid. According to Mississauga-based association president Dr. Lisa Bentley, chocolate is surprisingly OK to enjoy but with one caveat.
Hard candy treats, says Dr. Bentley, should be avoided as much as possible.
Dr. Bentley says parents have a huge role to play in their kids’ dental health at all times but especially post Halloween.
Other treats that the association says promote tooth decay and cavities are caramels, licorice, dried fruit and potato chips. On the flip side, cheese and nuts get the thumbs up.
