Shovels are about to be in the ground in Morrow Park.
Construction on the new community centre that will include a twin-pad arena and Peterborough Public Library branch will start within the next two weeks at the southeast corner of Lansdowne and Park streets.
The recreational hub in Morrow Park will also include an indoor walking track and multi-purpose spaces. The design also prepares for Phase 2 of the project, which is not currently budgeted or approved, for an aquatic centre that would add an indoor pool to the facility for both community and competitive uses.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by fall 2024.
Mayor Diane Therrien says this project is essential and long overdue, adding that while the path to get to this point has been challenging, it has also presented new opportunities.
City Council approved the location for the new community centre in July 2021.
