Our countdown to the Mann Cup continues.
The 2022 edition of the Mann Cup begins tonight and someone who is very familiar with this Canadian championship series is Lakers superstar, Shawn Evans.
Evans is playing in his 10th Mann Cup and says this time around is just as exciting as the first time was.
The veteran leader of the Lakers is not the only one who is excited, he says he can feel the excitement throughout Peterborough.
As for preparing for a team they’ve never seen before, Evans admits that can be a challenge.
Of course it’s a team game but not lost on Evans is the fact that he currently sits in second place on the all-time Mann Cup points list, just 25 points behind lacrosse legend, John Tavares, who hasn’t played summer ball since winning the Mann Cup with Peterborough in 2012.
Evans is currently the all-time Mann Cup assists leader (134) and his 7 Mann Cups are one Mann Cup shy of tying Tavares for most Mann Cups won as a player.
Those aren’t the only records in the history book being challenged, a Lakers win would also give the team their fourth Cup in a row, something that hasn’t been done since the early 1950’s.
Game 1 is set for 8 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
