Shirley O’Neill’s desire to honour her late husband Paul has resulted in a new $50,000 student bursary for eligible Fleming College students.
The Paul and Shirley O’Neill Student Bursary is open to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing, Personal Support Worker, Heavy Equipment Techniques and Resource Drilling Technician programs. In establishing the bursary, Shirley also fulfilled a second wish of ensuring the important work of future nursing and PSW Fleming graduates continues.
Born in Lindsay, Paul and Shirley married in 1962 and spent most of their working years in Oshawa working for Oshawa Hydro and General Motors. On retirement, they returned to their hometown of Lindsay where, in 2013, Paul passed away.
Now 88 years old, Shirley is an avid sports fan, with the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs among her favourite teams.
