Another name has jumped into the race to represent Northcrest Ward.
Entrepreneur and community-builder Carlotta James will put her name on the ballot in October.
For the past seven years, James has successfully run a landscaping business that specializes in transforming spaces into pollinator habitat. James is also cofounder of the Monarch Ultra, an international relay run and conservation project that aims to connect communities across North America with a common goal of biodiversity conservation for monarch butterflies.
James joins Deputy Mayor Andrew Beamer and former city councillor Dave Haacke vying for a spot in the north. Current Northcrest councillor Stephen Wright has announced he’ll be running for mayor.
The campaign period begins on Monday, May 2nd and closes August 19th. Nomination forms will be available at the City Clerkâs Office at City Hall, 500 George St. N. To run as a candidate in the city, candidates must include with their nomination form endorsement signatures from at least 25 people who are eligible to vote.
The nomination filing fee is $200 to run as a mayoral candidate and $100 for councillor and school board trustee positions.
