As part of Trent University’s 2022 Convocation ceremonies, six distinguished individuals will be presented with honorary degrees.
Honorary degrees are the highest honour that Trent can award an individual and are given in recognition of exemplary achievements or social contributions in Canada or internationally.
Between June 2nd and 10th Trent will be recognizing individuals in the arts, environment and human rights during in-person ceremonies- the first in over two years.
Here is a list of those being recognized:
Bob Ezrin – Thursday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m., Tribute Communities Centre, Oshawa
Legendary Canadian record producer, Bob Ezrin, will receive an honorary doctorate of laws at Trent University Durham GTA for his significant contributions to the Canadian entertainment industry and dedication to environmental and social activism.
Dr. Muriel Miguel – Tuesday, June 7 at 2:00 p.m., Peterborough campus
Choreographer, director, actor, and “grandmother of Indigenous theatre,” Muriel Miguel, will receive an honorary doctorate of letters in recognition of her landmark contributions to contemporary Indigenous and feminist theatre movements.
Dr. Charles Krebs, FRSC – Wednesday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m., Peterborough campus
World-renowned ecologist, Dr. Charles Krebs has inspired generations of biologists and ecologists with his large-scale, collaborative projects on the drivers of population and ecosystem change in natural and agricultural environments. He will be granted an honorary doctorate of science for his extensive contributions in the areas of ecology, environmental science, wildlife conservation, and northern research.
The Honourable Dr. Lillian Eva (Quan) Dyck, O.C. – Wednesday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m., Peterborough campus
As the first female First Nation and Canadian-born Chinese senator, Honourable Dr. Lillian Eva Quan Dyck is lauded for extensive work on missing and murdered Indigenous women. She will receive an honorary doctorate of laws in recognition of her advocacy for equity in the education and employment of women, Chinese Canadians, and Indigenous peoples.
Rosemary Burns Ganley – Thursday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m., Peterborough campus
Lifelong feminist activist and writer, Rosemary Ganley, will be acknowledged with an honorary doctorate of laws for her passionate advocacy for human rights and community engagement.
Ana P. Lopes, C.M. – Thursday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m., Peterborough campus
Social innovator, entrepreneur, changemaker and philanthropist, Ana Lopes, will be presented with an honorary doctorate of laws for her extraordinary contributions to non-profit organizations with a focus on women’s health and mental health advocacy, research, and clinical care.
