Peterborough Police want the public to be aware of a scam around the social media app, Snapchat.
On Friday, officers received two reports where young people under the age of 15 were asked to send nude photos of themselves, once photos were received the person then asked for money or for gift cards, threatening the sender to distribute the photos if they didn’t.
Anyone with information or if they have experienced such a scam is asked to call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Investigators encourage you to report any incidents to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. The Centre has tips on how you can protect yourselves and loved ones including being careful who you share images with and remembering that if you don’t know the person in real life to be extra cautious and to not enter into a conversation.
