The Special Investigations Unit is now at the scene of a fatal Friday night crash, just outside the City, that took the life of a 19 year old man.
The SIU says that a Peterborough Police Service officer was conducting speed enforcement on County Road 28 last night, at around 10:40 pm, when a southbound vehicle was spotted by the officer, travelling at a high rate of speed.
Officials say that the officer tried to stop the motorist, but lost sight of the vehicle.
The officer later found the suspect vehicle, after it was involved in a multi-vehicle crash.
Several people were injured, and one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
There is no word on how many vehicles were involved, or the identity of the individual killed as a result of the crash.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, is asked to contact the SIU.
The Special Investigations Unit is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
