After starting with Peterborough Police 17 years ago, Jen Bell now has a new title in front of her name – Sergeant.
A product of Peterborough through-and-through, Bell graduated from Fleming College’s Police Foundations Program, and says working and serving a community she knows so well is very rewarding.
Bell says rising through the ranks of Peterborough Police wasn’t always something she wanted to do however. Originally she wanted to be considered for the position of K9 officer within the police service, but when the opportunity presented itself to become a Sergeant this past February, she took it. She says both opportunities came up around the same time, but chose the Sergeant route because she feels it’s important for women to be represented in leadership roles, not just for her but also women coming up through the system behind her.
Bell adds that the world is changing, and seeing more and more women of rank in policing is something that wasn’t seen even as recently as 30 years ago, which is inspiring to her.
