You’ll soon be required to have a permit to remove a tree with a trunk diameter of 7.5cm or more.
City council approved a new Tree Removal By-law back in May.
There is no cost for the application itself but if a Permit fee is payable it will be collected at the time of the application.
There are no permit fees or replant requirements for removing dead trees, high-risk trees, Ash trees or Buckthorn trees. The city also says will be introducing a new educational and incentive program with workshops on tree care.
As part of the urban forest canopy conservation program, the city will plant two new trees for every healthy tree removed from private property.
