Hydro One is tipping off people about a scam going around the area.
Some Peterborough Distribution customers have been receiving calls claiming to be from Hydro One, threatening to disconnect their electricity unless an immediate payment is made.
Officials are warning that with the transition to Hydro One, this may be a primetime for scammers looking to take advantage of unsuspecting victims. A statement put out by the company reminders everyone they are not disconnecting any customers at this time.
Customers can protect themselves by reaching out to their current electricity service provider or contacting the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre.
