After a joint-statement yesterday from Peterborough’s local elected officials, each of them re-affirmed that they’re strongly against any anti-lockdown protests at City Hall.
MP Maryam Monsef, MPP Dave Smith and County Warden J. Murray Jones were all on a Peterborough Public Health Press Conference today, just a day before a planned protest outside of City Hall.
Monsef says you have a right to disagree and be upset, but don’t do so at the expense of others.
During the press conference, Smith was asked if he had a message for anyone planning to come from out of town for this weekend’s protest.
When asked about former Conservative MPP Randy Hillier, Smith didn’t mince his words.
Yesterday, Peterborough Mayor Diane Therrien sent a tweet to People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier and independent MPP Randy Hillier, telling them to stay home. Both are reportedly appearing at tomorrow’s protest.
Meantime, Jones says that we’re in a war against COVID-19 and it’s important to stay at home to keep everyone safe.
Protests at City Hall have grown each Saturday in recent weeks locally, while Peterborough Police have pressed charges to some attending the rallies.
