Peterborough Public Health has closed Who’s Next Barbershop because of non-compliance with provincial shutdown orders.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Rosana Salvaterra says that once public health became aware they were continuing to serve customers, she directed police to help them close the business. Salvaterra notes that public health is keeping a close eye on the situation and will take any necessary actions moving forward, which could include fines of up to $5000 for each time they reopen.
The barbershop posted on their Facebook page last night that public health had broken into the shop illegally to seize the property around 9:00pm, while owner Alex Masters posted the windows and doors had been boarded.
Earlier this week Peterborough Public Health Inspector Julie Ingram said that customers cannot be charged under the Reopening Ontario Act like the business would be, however they could be charged under the provincial stay-at-home order.
