As a society, we are much better about holding conversations around mental health today than 10 years ago but there are still improvements to be made.
Sheila Collett is a Mental Health Clinician with the Peterborough Family Health Team. Collett says she has pretty much always had a deep interest in understanding how people think and what motivates them.
Collett believes navigating a mental health situation can be a very isolating and confusing circumstance and it’s important for people to know and learn from others shared-stories that they are not alone.
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many physical challenges, but what about the ones we can’t see? Collett says we are seeing more people presenting with mental health problems not only because of the stresses of day-to-day life but also missing the experience of basic human interaction.
From her perspective, working in mental health not only allows her to learn more about a person’s’ struggles but also witness the potential of the human spirit.
