An ‘oops’ moment for Peterborough-Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef last night during a House of Commons meeting.
The moment came after Monsef voted virtually against an NDP motion calling for a tax on Canadians with fortunes over $20-million, as well as corporations that have been ‘profiting from the pandemic’.
Monsef was heard saying on her microphone ‘The question they’re gonna ask me – how much do I make now? Like 250?’, before a reminder from a house speaker for all non-voting members to mute their microphones.
According to Huffington Post, Monsef makes just shy of $270,000 a year plus other perks – which includes a living allowance for stays in Ottawa. Members of Parliament make $182,600 as a base, plus an extra $87,200 for serving as a cabinet minister.
Monsef has yet to comment on the mishap.
