The Ontario government says it plans to do away with streaming for the province’s high school students.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says students will no longer be asked to choose between an academic and an applied course of study when they enter Grade 9. The government says Black and Indigenous students are streamed into the applied classes in higher numbers and are less likely to earn a diploma than other students.
When reached out to for comment, neither the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board or Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic School Board have received a formal mandate from the ministry yet.
