It is Community Builders Day on PTBOToday.ca presented by Community Futures Peterborough.
Having started with the Canadian Cancer Society as a Volunteer Coordinator on an eight-month contract in 2007, Alison Payne now finds herself as the Senior Manager of the Peterborough and Durham Community Offices.
Payne, who has actively volunteered in the community since she was 12, now oversees some of the largest fundraisers in the Peterborough area including Relay for Life, Pedal for Hope and the annual Peterborough Petes Pink in the Rink fundraiser each September.
She says she’s always inspired from working for an organization that gives her a chance to learn and give back to the community. As far as accomplishments, she says she’s most proud of creating the Devil’s Run, which was aimed at empowering women all while raising money to help fight cancer. The Devil’s Run would eventually roll out to be a provincial events, created by Payne and a team from the Canadian Cancer Society.
