Parents take heed, all playgrounds in Peterborough are now closed.
Officials with the city says all playground equipment, and the adult outdoor exercise station at Beavermead Park are closed effective immediately during the stretch of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The recommendation was made by Peterborough Public Health, because of the types of playground surfaces and the limited cleaning and sanitzation practices for outdoor equipment.
Parks, trails and greenspaces will stay open but everyone is reminded that physical distancing must be observed.
The City says it will continue to monitor the situation in consultation with health officials and will make additional changes as warranted.
Frequent hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is an important measure to reduce the spread of the virus, especially after touching high-traffic surfaces such as handrails and other public surfaces.
Residents are reminded to stay home if they are ill and ensure they are following appropriate self isolation and/or quarantine requirements if they have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days or suspect they have been exposed.
