The Peterborough Swim Club added to its strong season with 22 medals and four club records across two major competitions over the April 17 to 19 weekend.
Peterborough swimmers competed at the 2026 Mallards April Long Course Challenge at the Markham Pan Am Centre, while the club’s masters athletes raced at the 2026 Ontario Masters Provincials in Etobicoke.
At the Markham meet, Peterborough swimmers earned 22 medals, including four gold, 12 silver and six bronze, while competing against clubs from across Ontario.
The weekend also produced four new club records.
Owen Stainton set a new men’s 13-14 long course record in the 50-metre backstroke, finishing in 29.93 seconds. The mark broke the previous club record of 31.22 set by Ryan Gow in 2002.
Benjamin Korkus added three new records in the men’s 10-and-under long course division.
Korkus set a new 400-metre freestyle record in 5:31.20, breaking the previous mark of 5:43.45 set by Brent Bidgood in 1991.
He also lowered the 100-metre freestyle record with a time of 1:12.99, surpassing the 1:14.64 mark set by Erik Yuill in 1990, and set a new 200-metre freestyle record in 2:35.43, breaking the previous standard of 2:41.60 set by Bill Cocks in 1994.
At the Ontario Masters Provincials in Etobicoke, Peterborough swimmers also posted strong results.
Stephanie Dancey won bronze in the 1,500 freestyle and placed fourth in the 800 freestyle, while Lisa Oelke recorded fifth-place finishes in both the 100- and 50-metre breaststroke events.
Club officials say the results reflect continued strength throughout the Peterborough Swim Club program, from age-group development through masters competition.
