It’s moving day for two local families, the newest owners of Habitat for Humanity homes in Peterborough. The families got the keys to the semi-detached homes on Wolfe Street at a dedication ceremony held this morning. Melissa Lorenz says it’s a dream come true.
Families qualify for Habitat homes based on their need for affordable housing, and the ability to repay an interest free mortgage that is geared to income. They also invest 500 “sweat equity” hours, by volunteering at the build site, at the ReStore and at other Habitat initiatives. Since 2003, 34 local families have benefitted from the program.
