Residents will once again have a say in Peterborough’s Canada Day celebrations as Movie Night returns to Quaker Foods City Square later this month, with four films up for a community vote.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30 at 215 Charlotte St. and will kick off the city’s Canada Day festivities with an outdoor screening beginning at dusk, around 9 p.m.
Movie fans can choose between The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Big Year, Gnomeo and Juliet, or Butterfly Tale. Organizers say each of the films has a Canadian connection, whether through cast and crew, filming locations or story themes.
Voting is open online at https://connectptbo.ca/movienight and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 19.
The film screening begins at 7:30 p.m., with attendees encouraged to arrive early and settle in before sunset.
The city is encouraging residents to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks for the outdoor event. Free popcorn will be provided, and a s’mores station will also be available for attendees.
City officials say the event is designed to bring the community together and help launch Canada Day celebrations in a family-friendly outdoor setting in the downtown core.
More information about the movie options and voting details is available through the city’s online engagement portal.
