Trent University is creating its largest-ever endowed bursary to support local students with financial barriers to accessing post-secondary education.
The new Joyce Family Foundation Bursary Endowment Fund was created thanks to a $2.5-million gift from the Joyce Family Foundation.
Meant to combat socio-economic barriers to post-secondary education, the Bursary will be available to any undergraduate student, in any field of study.
The school says preference will be given to students from Peterborough, Durham Region and Haliburton County, who may face those socio-economic barriers.
The fund will provide annual bursaries of up to $5000 for four students per year, renewable up to a maximum of four years.
Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University says the gift will go a long way to support students who may not otherwise be able to pursue post-secondary education.
