Trent University and local First Nations leaders unveiled a new rock at the University this morning, in efforts to educate others about indigenous roots in our community.
Vice-President Julie Davis says the school has worked with Elders and Knowledge Keepers leading up to this.
Davis says its important to create a safe space for indigenous students so they can celebrate their culture while at school.
She says seeing members of local First Nations communities in attendance at the ceremony brought a lot of emotions.
The Treaty Rock is located outside the Bata Library, and features carvings of the symbols of the clan totems of the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory.
