Fleming College’s new Plumbing Apprenticeship Program is something the school has been wanting to add for a while now.
President Maureen Adamson says they got the program based on projections for the next five years.
The program will allow individuals to pursue a career as a plumber, pipefitter, contractor or supervisor in residential, commercial or industrial settings.
Another big plus of the apprentice program coming to Peterborough is less travel for students, which Adamson says is a huge difference maker when selecting schools.
Adamson adds that this will help local students stay local, which in turn will help the economy in Peterborough. Training sessions will be in the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborough. Along with the experience gained through work, the program involves three in-school sessions of 240 hours each. Eligibility is determined by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, as you must registered apprentices with the Ministry, which includes being sponsored by an eligible employer.
