The Kinsmen Minor Football League is launching a flag football league for the first time this summer for children aged 10 to 12.
President John Welsh says it’s a sport that’s growing quickly.
Welsh says that it helps younger athletes learn the ins and outs of football before they get into the full contact sport.
He says that the goal is for this league to be an introduction for children that haven’t tried football yet, but also expects some regulars to sign up for the league.
The league will initially have four teams of 40 co-ed players playing over a four week season in May and June, but is hoping to grow in 2022. Welsh adds that COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place at practices and at games on the sidelines and for parents that are watching children play.
